Seed Blessing Spell

  1. Prep soil/tray/ get everything ready lay it out as a messy altar. Cast a circle or white light protective bubble if you would like to.
  2. Add moonwater to spray bottle/watering can/container for nurturing, honoring the water. You can add some kelp to the bottle if you like for extra nutrients as peat moss is very low in plant food.
  3. Light candle and allow light to illuminate seeds, as the growing sun lends energy to our land and plant life. You can also place flowers in the circle of light, representing the spring flowers and time of growth and renewal for blessing.
  4. Spring equinox is equal parts light and dark, the darkness of night and winter is equally important for growth as the sunlight of summer and day. The winter has given us time to rest, ideas, composting old things. Honor the darkness by preparing the earth – dig your fingers through it and mix through some kelp powder, reserving a small amount of plain peat moss. Spring is such an amazing time.
  5. Think about what you would like to ‘grow’ in your life, or what you would like to sow the seeds of/start. Visualize this and write it down on your intention paper. Alternatively you can write it with chalk on or in the pot. Wright it in the present tense, as though it’s already happened. Anoint it will the kelp tea or moon water for nurturing. Fold paper in half towards you then turn sunwise (east to north) and fold in half again towards you, then again towards you. Place it in the bottom of your pot to the side and silently or outloud state your intention and that it will be nurtured and grow well in the pot. Don’t block the drain hole with the paper, prop it up the side of the pot to keep it away from the drain hole
  6. Fill the pot about 2/3 with your kelp mixed soil. Add plain soil on top leaving a 1cm gap up the top and reserving 1tsp of soil. tamp the soil down gently, finalizing winter composting and rest, and gently press your finger tip into the centre of the soil making a space for new spring growth. Sow the seed roughly as deep as it is big – place your seed in the hole and sprinkle a tsp of the plain soil over to fill the hole, silently giving the seed a final blessing. If you’re growing microgreens, level off the top and sprinkle seeds over the whole lot instead, then sprinkle over a small amount of seed mix.
  7. Gently spray with water till wet and place pot on tray, fill tray with water and allow to soak up.
  8. Snuff out your candle if it’s still going and close your circle. Or, you can plant more seeds if you like!
  9. Place on your kitchen windowsill if you can or just in a sunny spot. East is great to catch the morning light. Everyday tend your seed and intention by speaking to it and giving it a loving spray of moonwater and turn the pot. When it sprouts you can keep it in there till it outgrows its pot, pot it outside, repot it in a larger pot, or gift it to someone. If you’re growing microgreens instead harvest them (when they grow their first lot of ‘true leaves, approx 2-3 weeks after you sow them) with scissors , give them a rinse and eat them

Alternatively you can just bless them and sow them directly into the garden!
